| The Able Bodied Seaman Limited position is a documented member of the ship's deck department crew and requires the endorsement of Able Bodied Seaman Limited on your U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariners Document. (Z-Card) The Able Bodied Seaman Limited stands watch while in port or at sea and performs routine deck department maintenance tasks. This position requires one year sea service in the deck department. You are required to speak and understand English. You must prove to the U.S. Coast Guard that you have been trained in the use of lifeboats and liferafts. You must pass a lifeboatmans test on lifeboats and liferafts. This position requires 18 months of service on vessels of 100 gross tons or over, on vessels which operate offshore.
Other responsibilities include standing watch and acting as wheelman, duty on underway replenishment rigs, dry/liquid cargo handling in both cargo holds and on deck, forklift operation, and helicopter deck operations on all classes of civil service crewed ships.
