Trip Pilot
Trip Pilot is a Temporary Position.

Under the direction of the Master, the Pilot is the next senior authority on board a vessel. The Pilot actively assists the Master in carrying out the duties involved in the safe, efficient operation of the vessel and crew.

Essential Functions and Accountability:

-To know, follow, and carry out all Safety Rules, Procedures, and Policies as stated in the Employee Handbook, Memorandum Binder and the Responsible Carrier Program. Manual, and to serve as a member of the Vessel Safety committee.

-To Assist the Master in accomplishing all duties in overseeing personnel and delegating duties in accordance with existing conditions and circumstances.

-To receive and execute orders regarding pickup, movement and delivery of barges and cargoes and to make reports of progress toward completion of assignments. To be responsible for determining drafts and seaworthiness of all barges.

-To comply with all rules, regulations and laws concerning the safe, efficient and pollution-free operation of the vessel under the standard operating procedures governing such operations.

-To assist the Master in performing vessel casualty investigations, particularly those occurring on their watch.

-To possess a valid operators license for Western and Inland Rivers and radar endorsement.

-To possess a valid Restricted Radio Operator permit.

-To be PIC trained where required.

-To be familiar with fire pump systems, bilge pump systems, associated valves and fixed fire extinguishing systems.

-To be familiar with the operation of all systems related to tow-building and vessel operations.

-To be proficient at using all pilothouse equipment and systems including fuel monitors and computers so as to enhance the safe, efficient operation of the vessel.

-From time to time, perform other operational or administrative tasks as assigned by the Master and/or the Vice President of Boat Operations.

-The Pilot will supervise all deck crew members serving on their watch. The Pilot will receive supervision from the Master, Port Captain, and the Vice President of Boat Operations.
