The Utility-man is an unlicensed entry grade member of the ship's supply department crew and requires the endoresement of either:
  • Utility-man (FH) or
  • Any entry level rating on the U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariners Document

The duties of the Utility-man include general hotel service work such as:

  • Food handling
  • Cleaning and maintenance of staterooms and passageways
  • Assisting the Chief Steward with daily provisions
  • Manning underway replenishment rigs on all classes of MSC civil service crewed ships

    (Salary range: $16,000 to $23,700)
Ordinary Seaman ~ Able Bodied Seaman ~ Utility Man

Unlicensed Junior Engineer ~ Refrigeration Engineer
Electronics Technician ~ Deck Engineer Machinist
